Caring Comfort: Care Packages for Breast Cancer Patients
Help us provide newly diagnosed breast cancer patients with care packages that include a handmade journal/notebook, handmade card, and other care items (mints, bookmark, lotion, etc.). The care packages have a significant positive impact on patients’ emotional and mental well-being by providing encouragement, practical items for hospital/medical visits and stays, and pampering items for self-care.
The care packages and items within are crafted and assembled by volunteers in a group setting, led by a crafting expert. A key piece of the care package is the handwritten, encouraging notes included in the handmade card. The aim is to let every single patient know that they are not alone, that there is a community thinking of them.
Volunteers deliver the care packages directly to patients during the first visit following a breast cancer diagnosis, working with the Bryan Breast Cancer Multidisciplinary Clinic. The care packages are intended to benefit patients in several meaningful ways, such as emotional support (reduce feelings of isolation), practical items to allow for note taking or written reflection, and pampering items to promote a positive mindset.
